How to Prepare for Heading Home for Christmas as a Student
Start Planning Early
As December approaches, it’s a good idea to begin planning your journey home. Tickets for trains and coaches can become expensive or sell out, so book in advance to secure the best fares. Check out useful student travel discounts via the National Railcard or Student Beans.
Tidy Up and Pack Smart
Before you leave your student house in Plymouth, ensure your room is clean and your belongings are stored properly. Make a checklist of essentials you want to take home and label any boxes or suitcases you’re leaving behind. If you’re sharing, let your housemates know what’s staying and going.
Don’t Forget the Fridge
Throw away any perishable food and empty your bins before heading off. Check shared fridges and cupboards for anything with upcoming expiry dates. It’s always nicer to return to a fresh-smelling kitchen in January.
Security and Safety
Double-check that windows are locked and electricals (aside from the fridge/freezer) are unplugged. SR4U homes have regular inspections, but we always recommend students take extra care before leaving their property empty for a few weeks.
Inform Your Landlord or Lettings Team
At Student Rooms 4 U, we encourage you to let us know if your house will be empty. This helps our maintenance and inspection team monitor the property. You can always get in touch with us directly if you have any questions.
