Start with the Basics: Bedroom Essentials 

Your room will be your home base, so make sure it feels comfortable and functional. Most Student Rooms 4 U properties come fully furnished with a bed, desk, wardrobe, and drawers. That said, it’s still worth packing bedding (including a spare set), pillows, duvet, mattress protector, desk lamp, extension leads, hangers, laundry basket, and any personal decorations. Just remember – permanent fixtures like painting or drilling aren’t allowed. 

Kitchen Kit: What You’ll Need 

Our student houses come equipped with the essentials like a cooker, fridge-freezer, and microwave, but you’ll still want your own utensils and cookware. Pack some basics: a saucepan, frying pan, plates, bowls, mugs, glasses, cutlery, Tupperware, and tea towels. Don’t forget essentials like a bottle opener, peeler, and a sharp knife. 

Toiletries & Cleaning Products 

When it comes to staying clean and keeping your house in order, having your own supplies will save you time and money. Stock up on shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toilet roll, and a first-aid kit. For the house, bring antibacterial spray, washing-up liquid, bin bags, sponges, and laundry detergent. Student Rooms 4 U properties are inspected monthly, so keeping your space clean will help keep those inspections smooth. 

Academic Gear 

Don’t forget you’re going to university! You’ll need: pens, notebooks, highlighters, a planner or calendar, laptop and charger, headphones, USB stick, and any course-specific materials. Plymouth University offers further guidance for new students and academic prep on their site. 

Clothing & Footwear 

Pack a range of clothes for all weathers – Plymouth can be unpredictable. Think about layering: jumpers, waterproofs, and comfortable walking shoes are a must. You’ll also want clothes for social events and gym gear if you’re planning on joining the gym or local sports clubs. 

Make It Yours: Personal Touches 

While you can’t make permanent changes to your SR4U property, you can still personalise your space. Bring removable decorations like fairy lights, photos, posters, or a cosy throw to make your room feel like home.
